The Charites: goddesses of grace
Who were the Graces, and where does Pasithee fit?
Published 2026-10-23
The Charites — the Graces in English — were Greek goddesses personifying beauty and grace.[4]
Hesiod’s three
In Hesiod’s Theogony they are Aglaia (“Splendor”), Euphrosyne (“Joy”) and Thalia (“Good Cheer”), daughters of Zeus by the Oceanid Eurynome.[4]
Many versions
Their names, number and parentage varied across accounts. They had little independent mythology and usually attended other gods, especially Aphrodite.[4]
In Rome
The Romans called them the Gratiae.[4]
Pasithee
Pasithee is listed as one of the Charites, and as the spouse of Hypnos (Sleep).[1]
